A FRESH LAUNDRY

In this laundry room, a colour palette of two shades of green and white tiles creates a fresh atmosphere.

To infuse warmth into the space, wooden shelving and a wooden edge beneath the pristine white benchtop were incorporated. The custom-made wooden handles and handcrafted knobs, skillfully created by our client, tie in with the wooden elements, adding a touch of natural beauty. A tall ceiling-high storage cabinet offers ample space for storing linen, ironing essentials, vacuum cleaner, craft supplies, and other household necessities, keeping everything organized and easily accessible.

The tiles in the laundry are laid in a beautiful pattern, adding both visual interest and texture to the splashback wall. This thoughtful detail elevates the overall design, transforming a functional space into a visually appealing and inviting laundry area.

COSY AND DARK - AND LOTS OF STORAGE

After completing their kitchen renovation, our clients turned their attention to their bedroom as part of their ongoing house renovation project.

Their vision for the bedroom was to create a cosy and intimate space, utilising rich dark brown timber tones and black cabinetry. A key priority was to maximize storage capacity within the room.

To bring their vision to life, we used Meranti plywood for the front panels, complemented by black plywood for the cabinetry carcasses. This combination of materials added a sophisticated touch to the overall design.

To create a visual contrast and to enhance the ambiance, we incorporated a light birch backing behind the bedhead. This not only reflects light in the reading area but also introduces a contrasting element to the color scheme.

Our clients added bold feature to the bedroom in form of a dark teal ceiling and wall. This colour choice adds depth and character to the room, serving as a statement piece within the overall design.

SHELVES TO MATCH THE RETRO KITCHEN

A few months after completing the retro-modern kitchen for our clients, they approached us with a new request—to construct a shelving unit that would harmonise with the retro-modern style of their new kitchen. This shelving unit was intended to house books, the TV, a stereo and turntable, some tapes and vinyl records and some other smaller equipment.

The shelving unit was designed to occupy the green wall next to the old fireplace while maintaining a light and airy feel. So we developed a modular design that incorporates an interplay of open and closed backing for the modular cubes.

The central open space was specifically allocated for the TV. Some of the equipment is hidden behind sliding doors to maintain a tidy, mostly equipment-free look. To the left and right of the base unit, two larger open spaces are designated to accommodate the speakers. The remaining cubes serve as storage for books, plants, and collected treasures.

FOR VINYL LOVERS

Our client's passion for collecting vinyl records and tapes required a functional and stylish solution for storing his extensive collection and equipment. Collaborating closely with him, we came up with a design that perfectly met his needs.

The design incorporates open spaces for displaying the vinyl records and equipment, while drawers provide a dedicated space for organizing the tapes. Additionally, we integrated a small office space, complete with an integrated desk for a screen and computer. Cupboards were included to offer extra storage for items that don't require to be displayed.

To ensure proper ventilation for each piece of equipment, we designed dedicated spaces that allow for adequate airflow. This guarantees the longevity and optimal performance of the equipment.

The modular design of the storage solution incorporates different depths to avoid a bulky appearance. The vinyl record storage elements are less deep, which is great for easy browsing. The desk, turntable cabinet, and equipment boxes have greater depth to accommodate the equipment.

SHELVES FOR ALL THE TREASURES

Our clients asked us to design a modern plywood shelf for books and other treasures to fit underneath theirs stairs , as well as a plant shelving solution for a currently unused corner space adjacent to the bookshelf.

Crafted from modular Birch plywood cubes, it is strategically positioned beneath the stairs in a stepped configuration. Its design provides ample space for storing books, magazines, and various other items while adding visual interest to the area.

The interconnected cubes not only offer storage compartments but also create additional usable spaces in between. This feature adds functionality to the shelf, allowing you to display or store items of different sizes or heights.

We chose to incorporate a black backing on some of the cubes. The black colour serves multiple purposes: it makes the colourful treasures inside the cubes stand out, creating an attractive visual contrast. Additionally, it establishes a connection to other black accents in the home, enhancing the overall harmony of the interior design. The use of Rattan for the lower drawer and cupboard units adds warmth and texture to the overall design.

In the corner, in front of the stairs, there's a floating plant shelf designed with multiple levels. It provides a perfect spot for various plants and special items. The rounded corners give it a softer look, and the design itself feels light and modern. The black box creates a link to the bookshelf in the background to bring everything together and add a cohesive touch to the space.

PIRATE BED FOR A YOUNG EXPLORER

We had a little explorer that needed a little bed space to call her own. A pirate design, with use of marine rigging and celestial additions made this bedtime space a place of dreams.

Shelving cubbyholes have been constructed to be utilised as a staircase entry into the bed, maximising on the limited space of the room. By elevating the bed high enough into the room, it frees up the available area beneath it to be utilised as extra play space.

A perfect little dream-space that the children can adapt themselves.

SIMPLE, DISCREET, CUSTOM STORAGE UNIT

Here is a perfect example of where a bespoke piece of cabinetry can maximise a living space. Our client had an empty nook that needed a bespoke piece of furniture. This book shelf snuggly fills the gap, nestling into the space and quietly presenting skilled craftsmanship.

This simple, clean and and discreet storage unit is constructed from NZ pine plywood. It’s been finished with a white wash OSMO Polyx protective oil. Simple details are expressed in this cabinet - the plywood edging and the perforated pegboard that is used as a cupboard door.

Shelving has been designed and constructed to be adjustable, because that’s life, we keep changing over the years.

A MINIMALIST BEECH TABLE

Making this table for some of our favourite clients has been so much fun. Our clients were looking for a sophisticated, elegant table for their beautiful home and they came to us with a clear vision what they wanted us to make.

This modernist, sleek design works beautifully with their mix of Danish, midcentury-modern furniture in their beautiful home.

The table was supposed to match other ‘thin elements’ in their home in thickness, like for instance the window sills. We have bevelled the edges of the table top and both inner sides of the legs to add further detail to the design as well as making this table look ‘lighter’ while keeping it structurally strong.

The table has also been built with a negative detail between the box legs and the tabletop to create a ‘floating effect’ for the elegantly thin table top.

We have finished the table with a high quality, natural oil. Beautiful black bolts hold everything together and add another interesting aspect to the overall look.

The table sits 6-8 people.

GABOON & RATTAN LOUNGE UNIT

The warm tone of the Gaboon plywood and the cane mesh really integrate themselves so nicely into this retro-modern styled beach home in Raglan.

When we met our clients they asked us to come up with a design that works well with the tones of their newly renovated beach house. The materials and design of their new TV-Stereo Unit and the matching book shelf is simple - with clean lines and tidy yet sophisticated details. The warm Gaboon veneer was a natural choice that adds a retro vibes to the design.
