A NEW KITCHEN FOR A HOME IN THE BUSH

Nestled amongst the lush bush in Raglan lies this beautifully designed timber house that seamlessly blends with its natural surroundings. The interior design incorporates multiple levels, with native timber as a prominent feature throughout.

The owners approached us with a desire to transform their outdated kitchen into a modern, minimalist space that would provide better functionality, storage, and a greater sense of openness.

The new kitchen is crafted from birch plywood. A recessed handle design for drawers and doors is incorporated to embrace the minimalist aesthetic. While the majority of the kitchen features a natural birch tone, red is incorporated as a feature colour. It highlights the island end panels, accentuated by a custom-made open steel shelf, as well as the drawers in the coffee station and pantry area, which is tucked into a niche. Complementing the kitchen island are two solid Ash timber shelves supported by black brackets.

Considering our clients' passion for cooking and entertaining, the gas hob is positioned to face the dining table, allowing them to engage with their guests while preparing delicious meals. The benchtops are a combination of three different materials to cater to specific functions. Stainless steel is utilized for the main kitchen area, seamlessly incorporating a downdraft extractor that doesn't obstruct the view. A stone benchtop is dedicated to rolling dough. And for the coffee station, we incorporated a solid Ash timber surface, adding warmth and character.

A MODERN KITCHEN IN WHITE AND BLACK

This new house is located in the newly developed area of Rangitahi in Raglan. It showcases a beautiful design that features a mostly black exterior, with a contemporary and modern aesthetic.

Inside, the interior is bright and light, featuring an open-plan layout that seamlessly connects the living, dining, and kitchen spaces. In the living room adjacent to the kitchen a raking plywood ceiling adds height and creates a spacious atmosphere.

Our clients asked us to build a kitchen that blends into the modern design of white and black with natural timber tones and some punches of colour. Working closely together with our client, we planned the kitchen to ensure it not only met their functional needs but also contributed to the overall aesthetic of the home.

The kitchen showcases an interplay of white and black elements, with the cabinetry contributing texture and depth through its pronounced lines. The work benchtop combines a thick stainless steel plate on plywood, offering a sturdy and practical surface while being elegant. Meanwhile, the kitchen island boasts a handmade concrete benchtop, which not only adds texture but also serves as a beautiful focal point in this gathering area.

PLYWOOD KITCHEN FOR AN ECLECTIC HOME

When our clients talked to us about their kitchen renovations, they have asked us if we could use Matai floorboards that they have taken out of the house during their renovations. They wanted to combine old and new. As a result of their idea, the Benchtop is a combination of new plywood with a top layer of the recycled Matai. Our clients specifically asked us to expose the edges of both materials.

The fronts are made of NZ Pine plywood with simple cut-out handles.

A black toe kick gives the cabinets a slight floating effect and adds a nice contrast to the overall look.
