THE FAMILY KITCHEN

When our client approached us, her vision for the kitchen was clear - a space that would be practical for her busy daily life with kids, constructed with good quality materials, and above all, inspiring, warm, and fun.

Together with her, we designed a kitchen that has a designated place for everything, from plates, glasses, and cutlery to essential appliances. A small pantry with ceiling-high shelving caters to her storage needs, providing ample space for food items and additional kitchen appliances.

We introduced open shelving and pops of colour. These elements not only allow our client to showcase her cherished vintage pieces and beloved plants but also infuse the kitchen with a playful atmosphere that truly resonates with her vision.

In the entry area, we installed a tall shelf extending from floor to ceiling, offering a convenient spot for everyday essentials like keys and phones. A small drawer with a wooden top keeps things organised, providing immediate storage. A charming vintage lamp illuminates the space during evening hours, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

To add warmth and character, we used native Tawa timber for the benchtops and overhead cabinets. The finger joint edge detail on the kitchen benchtop served as an extra design feature, which our client loves, adding a touch of uniqueness and charm to the overall aesthetic. The cooktop site features a stainless steel benchtop with a Tawa edge.

In the end, we were able to create a practical, high-quality kitchen that not only caters to our client's daily needs but also serves as a space that inspires, uplifts, and brings joy to her and her family.

THE SOULFUL KITCHEN

This soulful kitchen in the heart of the house was designed in collaboration with the owners.

Its warm combination of colour, wood, curves and handmade clay tiles makes the space light and inviting. The cosy nook is a favourite place to sip a cup of tea, read or chat.

Everything was well considered from the upstand to keep herbs and oils to the pantry for storage and the placement of compost and recycling bins.

The result is an inviting space that's functional and inspiring.

WAINUI STREAM COTTAGE

Nestled in a bush-clad valley, this cottage is located within walking distance of the famous Raglan Beach.

Our clients recently underwent a renovation project for this beautiful little cottage and asked us to design and craft a kitchen and vanity to complement their new space. The kitchen was supposed to be both fully functional and adaptable in its layout. It included a table and bench seats, a compact pantry unit, and a window seat that cleverly doubles as a bed.

For the colour scheme was supposed to be a warm, earthy and a little moody palette to create a cozy atmosphere. The addition of beautiful green tiles, paired with darker timber elements and grey-washed plywood fronts, added depth and character to the kitchen. A beautifully crafted dark grey benchtop blends beautifully with this colour scheme. The copper handles and taps bring a touch of warmth and served as eye-catching accents within the colour scheme.

The bathroom vanity followed the same design scheme as the kitchen, ensuring a cohesive and harmonious aesthetic throughout the cottage.

ART DECO INSPIRED KITCHEN RENOVATION

This new kitchen is a result of our clients' house renovation, which aimed to modernise the interior while still paying homage to the original art deco inspired design of the house. As part of the remodelling process, certain walls were removed to create an open and light-filled dining and kitchen area that functions well during their busy family life.

The kitchen design embraces a clean and airy aesthetic while incorporating elements inspired by the art deco era. White is the dominant colour in this design, creating a sense of freshness and brightness. To create a bold contrast, the back wall, which houses a full-height pantry cabinet, is elegantly adorned in black. This contrasting element adds depth and visual interest to the overall design.

The feature element of the kitchen is the curved island, where white slats introduce a textural element to the design. The benchtop, crafted from beautiful Blackwood, adds a touch of warmth to this meeting point. On the opposite side, where the hob, oven, and sink are located, a stone benchtop was chosen to ensure a highly functional and user-friendly work area. The beautiful natural brass tap that our clients have chosen is an eye-catching highlight of this area.

The cabinet fronts are constructed from plywood with a matt laminated surface, providing both durability and a sleek appearance. Throughout the kitchen, larger brass knobs were chosen to create a cohesive and eye-catching design element.

Blackwood shelves and LED lighting strips were incorporated into the kitchen design. These elements add a layer of visual depth and create a cozy atmosphere within the space.

A NEW KITCHEN FOR A HOME IN THE BUSH

Nestled amongst the lush bush in Raglan lies this beautifully designed timber house that seamlessly blends with its natural surroundings. The interior design incorporates multiple levels, with native timber as a prominent feature throughout.

The owners approached us with a desire to transform their outdated kitchen into a modern, minimalist space that would provide better functionality, storage, and a greater sense of openness.

The new kitchen is crafted from birch plywood. A recessed handle design for drawers and doors is incorporated to embrace the minimalist aesthetic. While the majority of the kitchen features a natural birch tone, red is incorporated as a feature colour. It highlights the island end panels, accentuated by a custom-made open steel shelf, as well as the drawers in the coffee station and pantry area, which is tucked into a niche. Complementing the kitchen island are two solid Ash timber shelves supported by black brackets.

Considering our clients' passion for cooking and entertaining, the gas hob is positioned to face the dining table, allowing them to engage with their guests while preparing delicious meals. The benchtops are a combination of three different materials to cater to specific functions. Stainless steel is utilized for the main kitchen area, seamlessly incorporating a downdraft extractor that doesn't obstruct the view. A stone benchtop is dedicated to rolling dough. And for the coffee station, we incorporated a solid Ash timber surface, adding warmth and character.

A MODERN KITCHEN IN WHITE AND BLACK

This new house is located in the newly developed area of Rangitahi in Raglan. It showcases a beautiful design that features a mostly black exterior, with a contemporary and modern aesthetic.

Inside, the interior is bright and light, featuring an open-plan layout that seamlessly connects the living, dining, and kitchen spaces. In the living room adjacent to the kitchen a raking plywood ceiling adds height and creates a spacious atmosphere.

Our clients asked us to build a kitchen that blends into the modern design of white and black with natural timber tones and some punches of colour. Working closely together with our client, we planned the kitchen to ensure it not only met their functional needs but also contributed to the overall aesthetic of the home.

The kitchen showcases an interplay of white and black elements, with the cabinetry contributing texture and depth through its pronounced lines. The work benchtop combines a thick stainless steel plate on plywood, offering a sturdy and practical surface while being elegant. Meanwhile, the kitchen island boasts a handmade concrete benchtop, which not only adds texture but also serves as a beautiful focal point in this gathering area.

THE TINY KITCHEN SPACE WONDER

Our clients love a mix of retro and modern design. The brief was to design and build a kitchen with a fresh and natural look that allows for two people ‘in action’ in their small kitchen space.

During the renovation process of this batch in Raglan, a part of a balcony was enclosed to become the new kitchen. As a result, the distance between the two side walls was narrower than ‘normal’ for a U-shaped kitchen.

The solution was to make right-hand side cabinets less deep than your standard size cabinets so that the couple had enough space in the middle to cook and prep food together.

Our clients chose a combination of NZ Pine plywood with a granite benchtop. The handle-free, tip-on opening fronts and the visible plywood end-grain give this kitchen design a clean and tidy aesthetic while the tone and grain of the whitewashed plywood add warmth a texture.

A large, ceiling-high pantry with pull-out drawers provides a whole lot of storage for all those groceries.

AN ELEGANT BLACK AND NATURAL PLYWOOD KITCHEN

This House is located in countryside of Tauranga. With its black exterior it blends in beautifully into its sourrounding landscape.

The interior is white and light with an open roof structure and beautiful polished conrete floors.

Our clients asked us to build a kitchen that blends into its souroundings of white and black with punches of colour. We planned this kitchen carefully to create a functional yet generous looking space .

The combinations of materials and textures and the clean lines give this kitchen an elegant aesthetic. The NZ Pine plywood adds warmth to this minimalistic design.

PLYWOOD KITCHEN FOR AN ECLECTIC HOME

When our clients talked to us about their kitchen renovations, they have asked us if we could use Matai floorboards that they have taken out of the house during their renovations. They wanted to combine old and new. As a result of their idea, the Benchtop is a combination of new plywood with a top layer of the recycled Matai. Our clients specifically asked us to expose the edges of both materials.

The fronts are made of NZ Pine plywood with simple cut-out handles.

A black toe kick gives the cabinets a slight floating effect and adds a nice contrast to the overall look.

UNIQUE PLYWOOD KITCHEN

This kitchen project was quite complex and involved finding a solution for the entry area, the dining room and the kitchen. Multifunctional with loads of storage - this was the motto of this unique eco plywood kitchen for a busy family.

The ceiling-high cabinet elements provide a lot of storage. A double-sided patry unit offers spaces for all those containers and cans for a big family. It also acts as a shoe shelf in the entry area and separates the entry from the kitchen.
In the background, a long shelving unit forms a visual connection between entry ’corridor’ and kitchen space.

The new island with sink has a breakfast bar area. The top is made of Rimu which is oiled with a natural oil-wax. Before the renovation, a wall used to separate the spaces. Taking this wall out has made a huge difference to the look and feel of our client’s home. it's so much lighter and more open.

Using every little inch in this kitchen- even the space around the inbuilt rangehood has been used to provide a little bit of storage. finding clever solutions for as much storage as possible in a small space was key in this kitchen renovation project.

And how gorgeous are these turquoise-blue tiles? Tiles are such a great way of adding colour and a certain style to your kitchen. The tiles in the photo are handmade, which makes them so unique.

The kitchen and new wall lining are birch plywood.

TINY STUDIO KITCHENETTE

A super cute, yet stylishly understated plywood kitchenette we’ve dreamed up with the Vink family for their AirBnB Studio.

The matt black finish on the worktop is both functional and very sleek to blend in with the black and white decor theme of this space.

SCANDI KITCHEN IN THE BUSH

This kitchen is full of character and melts in beautifully with the rustic but light filled living area of this house. The floor tiles is the only element that we kept from the old kitchen space.

The owners asked for a minimalistic but child friendly design, even the two cats have been taken into consideration with their special feeding station.

The concrete benchtop and emerald tiles bring it all together.
