SHELVES FOR ALL THE TREASURES

Our clients asked us to design a modern plywood shelf for books and other treasures to fit underneath theirs stairs , as well as a plant shelving solution for a currently unused corner space adjacent to the bookshelf.

Crafted from modular Birch plywood cubes, it is strategically positioned beneath the stairs in a stepped configuration. Its design provides ample space for storing books, magazines, and various other items while adding visual interest to the area.

The interconnected cubes not only offer storage compartments but also create additional usable spaces in between. This feature adds functionality to the shelf, allowing you to display or store items of different sizes or heights.

We chose to incorporate a black backing on some of the cubes. The black colour serves multiple purposes: it makes the colourful treasures inside the cubes stand out, creating an attractive visual contrast. Additionally, it establishes a connection to other black accents in the home, enhancing the overall harmony of the interior design. The use of Rattan for the lower drawer and cupboard units adds warmth and texture to the overall design.

In the corner, in front of the stairs, there's a floating plant shelf designed with multiple levels. It provides a perfect spot for various plants and special items. The rounded corners give it a softer look, and the design itself feels light and modern. The black box creates a link to the bookshelf in the background to bring everything together and add a cohesive touch to the space.

OLD WORLD GLAMOUR

Glamour, elegance and old world opulence, this little kitchenette is a striking addition to a local boutique AirBnB.

Black stained plywood, decadent wallpaper and brass details create a moody and evocative space. The natural rattan lifts the dark kitchen, brings a light into the space and creates an almost tropical feel to the kitchen. The matt black benchtop shows its beautiful, natural toned ply edge.

SLICK & ELEGANT KITCHENETTE

Another great little example of a slick little kitchen operating with elegant class and functionality.

Gaboon plywood gives off a beautiful warm shimmer into the room while the black details in the tap, handles and bench top anchor the kitchen with a touch of elegance. High quality hardware mechanisms and skilled craftsmanship allow this kitchenette to sit back in the room as another piece of bespoke furniture.

PIRATE BED FOR A YOUNG EXPLORER

We had a little explorer that needed a little bed space to call her own. A pirate design, with use of marine rigging and celestial additions made this bedtime space a place of dreams.

Shelving cubbyholes have been constructed to be utilised as a staircase entry into the bed, maximising on the limited space of the room. By elevating the bed high enough into the room, it frees up the available area beneath it to be utilised as extra play space.

A perfect little dream-space that the children can adapt themselves.

RETRO- MODERN RENOVATION

This kitchen plays right on the edge of retro feels that match the design aesthetics of the passionate collector of beautiful midcentury beauties while functioning within modern practicality. Golden FORBO Marmoleum floors radiate a warmth all year round in this kitchen space, while the minty green shaker cabinets lift the space and keep a classic elegance to the kitchen. Brass handles and Gaboon plywood work with the green and the golden floors harmoniously.

DYNAMIC AND STRIKING KITCHENETTE

This commercial kitchenette fit-out plays dynamically with the structure of the building around it. The angular staircase as a backdrop provides a striking and playful balance of form & space.

MOTIDE bespoke timber handles work with the linear aspects of the building, warming up the black tones of the kitchen and the staircase. The kitchen cabinet fronts are made from a matt black laminated plywood, with a dark grey Polaris benchtop. The staircase behind it is painted black.

The kitchen is kept minimal by integrating the dishwasher behind a cabinet door. Taps and overhead storage is kept to a simple and minimal presence.

The MOTIDE bespoke timber handles are repeated in the conference room next to the kitchen, keeping details continuous within the neighbouring spaces.

SIMPLE, DISCREET, CUSTOM STORAGE UNIT

Here is a perfect example of where a bespoke piece of cabinetry can maximise a living space. Our client had an empty nook that needed a bespoke piece of furniture. This book shelf snuggly fills the gap, nestling into the space and quietly presenting skilled craftsmanship.

This simple, clean and and discreet storage unit is constructed from NZ pine plywood. It’s been finished with a white wash OSMO Polyx protective oil. Simple details are expressed in this cabinet - the plywood edging and the perforated pegboard that is used as a cupboard door.

Shelving has been designed and constructed to be adjustable, because that’s life, we keep changing over the years.

STUNNING AIRBnB KITCHENETTE

A stunning little custom job for a local AirBnB. This little kitchenette has all the classic and elegant touches of a larger one.

Warm Gaboon plywood, subtle timber handles and traditional craftsmanship all allow this kitchenette to appear like a beautiful piece of furniture in the room.

PRACTICAL ELEGANCE

This old villa needed an elegant overhaul to accomodate to it’s owner’s entertaining dreams. Practical elements such as specific storage areas, coffee nooks and plenty of prep space make this kitchen a delight to cook a family meal or to entertain a crowd.

This grand renovation has all the functions of a modern kitchen but retains it’s soft elegant feel through natural timbers, shaker detailed cabinetry and warm copper hardware. We have used materials that work well with the restored hardwood flooring and feel right within it’s rural setting.

RATTAN KITCHENETTE

Our client came to us with a small little space that needed a fresh and elegant little kitchen. We love working with all types of design requests, big or small. Our solution was this relaxed rattan kitchenette.

We have drawn inspiration from our seaside location to craft a classic and elegant kitchen with beach vibes. Functionality is always crucial so plenty of storage was built in. The space is part of the ground level of a taller building, and we didn’t want to close the kitchen in with dark imposing cabinets. Instead, we have kept the design light, floating, with the illusion of space.

Birch plywood cabinets, with a durable Birch bench top all work with the intricate woven rattan. The white herringbone tiles provide the final textural touch.

CLASSIC ELEGANCE

Our client asked us to help them with a elegant bathroom renovation inside their villa. We have used the old villa to guide us into a design that has timeless elegance with a modern beauty. Natural materials are expressed through the copper handles and tap, their warmth working with the Blackwood bench top and mirror. The mirror is a cleverly concealed storage unit, which works well with the minimalist classic feel of the bathroom. Cabinets are constructed using Shaker detailing and finished with a white wash that delicately presents the grain of the timber.

THE TINY KITCHEN SPACE WONDER

Our clients love a mix of retro and modern design. The brief was to design and build a kitchen with a fresh and natural look that allows for two people ‘in action’ in their small kitchen space.

During the renovation process of this batch in Raglan, a part of a balcony was enclosed to become the new kitchen. As a result, the distance between the two side walls was narrower than ‘normal’ for a U-shaped kitchen.

The solution was to make right-hand side cabinets less deep than your standard size cabinets so that the couple had enough space in the middle to cook and prep food together.

Our clients chose a combination of NZ Pine plywood with a granite benchtop. The handle-free, tip-on opening fronts and the visible plywood end-grain give this kitchen design a clean and tidy aesthetic while the tone and grain of the whitewashed plywood add warmth a texture.

A large, ceiling-high pantry with pull-out drawers provides a whole lot of storage for all those groceries.

The combinations of materials and textures and the clean lines give this kitchen an elegant aesthetic. The NZ Pine plywood adds warmth to this minimalistic design.

A MINIMALIST BEECH TABLE

Making this table for some of our favourite clients has been so much fun. Our clients were looking for a sophisticated, elegant table for their beautiful home and they came to us with a clear vision what they wanted us to make.

This modernist, sleek design works beautifully with their mix of Danish, midcentury-modern furniture in their beautiful home.

The table was supposed to match other ‘thin elements’ in their home in thickness, like for instance the window sills. We have bevelled the edges of the table top and both inner sides of the legs to add further detail to the design as well as making this table look ‘lighter’ while keeping it structurally strong.

The table has also been built with a negative detail between the box legs and the tabletop to create a ‘floating effect’ for the elegantly thin table top.

We have finished the table with a high quality, natural oil. Beautiful black bolts hold everything together and add another interesting aspect to the overall look.

The table sits 6-8 people.
